PHOTOGRAPHER
ARCHITECT
VISUAL EXPLORER
I have combined art and visual communication for over twenty-five years to create timeless photographs of the built environment. I'm honored to be the official photographer of the internationally acclaimed Thorncrown Chapel since 2014.
A PASSION
FOR DESIGN
I am an architect who combines my passions for architecture and photography. I earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Louisiana State University and practiced with Atlanta’s award-winning TVS Design.
Choosing to pursue a more personal form of creativity, I completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. I trained with Atlanta’s leading architectural photographers and travel nationally to capture large-scale commercial projects.
I apply my understanding of architecture and the thoughtful use of composition and lighting control to produce high-quality, memorable images. I recognize your challenges and speak your language.

I BELIEVE
Realism is essential to architectural photography. I capture authentic moments and iconic views that respect the design. I use supplemental lighting and retouching with restraint to avoid intrusive lighting effects and severe processing that make photos look like renderings. Why else would you want photographs?
MASTERY
OF LIGHT
My photographic approach emphasizes a sensitivity to the nuances of light. Light is the soul of architecture as both a utility and a means of expression. Light is my principal resource to enhance the emotional impact of my photographs. My Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography provides a strong technical and artistic foundation in the creative use of light.
As an avid film enthusiast, I draw inspiration from the sophisticated techniques in cinematography to enhance my photography. I have worked on film sets including the production of a Netflix miniseries.
I study art history to learn from master artists who established principles of light and composition.
Work shown:
1. Film still from Casablanca, 1942. Cinematography by Arthur Edeson.
2. Drawing, Interior View of the Pantheon, c. 1768, by Giovanni Battista Piranesi.

“Randall has helped me with many projects over the years and has always been reliable, consistent in perfection, courteous, and respectful in all aspects of my business. I would highly recommend him in all regards.”
—Diane Ruus, Designer
What is the higher purpose of architectural photography? To bring recognition to the architectural profession by showcasing the power and beauty of design. I advocate for architecture by contributing to efforts in historic preservation, including documenting buildings for the Historic American Buildings Survey.
IN THE CAUSE
OF ARCHITECTURE
I’m honored to be the official photographer of the internationally acclaimed Thorncrown Chapel since 2014, where I’m producing the most complete survey of E. Fay Jones’ finest work.

“Your article is the highlight of the issue. It is always a pleasure to work with your photographs!”
